Like many before me I fell in love with Marian Keyes witty brand of chick lit. She is wickedly funny without the froth, in fact for those of us paying attention it was quite clear that there was a darkness underpinned to her writing that seemed more familiar to expirence than soapy imagination. I remember when it was announced that she would be taking a hiatus from writing to deal with the black dog of clinical depression. I was startled, but as I was an avid reader not completely surprised so I just bowed my head and hoped fervently for the best for Ms. Keyes as I knew first hand what she was up against.There are many ways to come out of a depression the funny thing is that they never seem to be the same road and the quest varies from one individual to another. Marian found her route in baking and has shared her recovery with us in a very unique, heart warming and witty cookbook.I suppose what really won me over here is that this is not your typical self-help book that encourages the reader to self-reflect to the point of a wallowing, narcisstic pity-party but the sheer nuts and bolts of a woman who had a problem and found a solution and dealt with it. This is true trouble-shooting minus the victimhood and its a recipe book to boot.Marian Keyes despite the road bumps just keeps finding ways to be awesome.

Some of the recipes sound a bit odd but that would be because it is filled with British recipes. I've actually read through it several times and cannot wait to get baking! Cookbooks are not usually so much fun to read. Marian Keyes' witty voice comes through clearly both in the intros to each cake, and even in the directions. Reading this is like sitting across the table from the author and having dessert and a chat. We'll done!
Have tried a few recipes and they have been good - breakfast bars, strawberry muffins,I like the tips the best.
