The first section of this book explains quite plainly that ADHD is a set of symptoms but has no actual medical diagnosis like cancer or diabetes. Therefore, when you treat it with amphetamines, which is what these drugs are, you aren't really treating the cause of the problem. It clearly explains the risks and dangers of these drugs. It goes into some of the fundamental problems with a large portion of the medical and psychiatric professions. It will be very insightful for many people who blindly trust these people who have big degrees and impressive titles. And best of all, she is a doctor so she has credibility to speak to this issue.Then it explains in chapters 3 - 10 methods of diagnosing and handling the symptoms using various natural means such as dietary changes, handling allergies, stomach issues and learning barriers.It is relatively short and is written clearly so it is not difficult to read. Even if you don't completely solve the problem with the book, you can see a specialist or find another book entirely on a subject in one of the chapters to fill in with more details.I highly recommend it!

This book got us started down a path of discovery. Our son is no longer on ADHD medicine and gets good grades in school. It's the diet Dummy, who knew?.? Our Son now east his vegetables and nothing synthetic. Within a month we saw a difference and took him off his Adult dose of meds. Today he is Med free and scores very well in school. It is not difficult, you just have to be consistent. Thank you Dr. Block for setting us up for success.

I am fortunate to live in the area and first met Dr. Mary Ann Block when she held a free informational seminar at her office. This book is an honest account of how parents can take responsibility for helping to resolve their child's or their own ADD/ADHD symptoms and is based on her years of success in using this treatment protocol. As with so many symptoms for which there are Rx treatments, it is convenient for them to be labeled as a disease - this helps ensure that insurance will cover the treatment and provides a nice short term to describe the constellation of symptoms. But as with many other "diseases", Rx treatments rarely get to the root of the source of the symptoms. This book can help you do that. I am also very fortunate that I also had this same constellation of symptoms - I realized this when I was researching my son's problem - I figured out that whatever he had - I had too. By removing the foods to which we are intolerant (e.g., gluten) and allergic (dairy, soy, eggs, etc.) and adding the nutrients that were deficient in our bodies due to the damage to our guts from the gluten, we have resolved many of our symptoms. Dr. Block provides a tremendous service to the community with her website and through these books - in hindsight I could have saved thousands of dollars had I started here - it took me several years to learn that conventional doctors don't have a clue about this. I don't believe there is a "cure" per se for ADD/ADHD, since IMHO it's not a real disease, BUT this approach can help to heal your body and minimize the symptoms. So, no this book won't help you "cure" ADD/ADHD, but it can dramatically improve your quality of life and that of your child. It does take discipline and the healing is not overnite - it's taken years for the offending things to do the damage, so it can take some time to heal - our body has to rebuild the damaged cells etc. It is also a permanent lifestyle change and that is naturally difficult for us as humans, but it is possible and well worth the effort.

I initially thought that I was buying the prequel, No More Ritalin, so when No More ADHD showed up it was quite the surprise. Clearly from this exhibit of my inattention to detail you might see why I was buying this book in the first place! Needless to say, I read and and overall it's a good book. However, it seems to be the updated version It's a good book and a quick read but regardless I feel like it has a lot of filler content. Which I suppose is understandable in an already brief book. I definitely think that I started to see less cognitive deficits and have been able to stay focused more easily. I'm going to stick with it see how it goes; maybe next time I won't accidentally order the wrong book.

The book offers good medical advice for approaching ADHD with diet and osteopathic body adjustments. However, the core relationship and attachment needs contributing to the development of disorders such as ADD and ADHD must be addressed also. This can be a helpful companion book to SCATTERED by Gabor Mate.

I especially recommend this book to the many different caretakers of our young ones (parents, guardians, teachers, doctors, and more) who are looking for solutions to common problems. Dr. Block gives a lot of information in non-technical, easy-to-read language to add to one's other research if necessary. This is also helpful for better communication with one's personal physician, school personnel, and others. Dr. Block's personal experiences from her struggles with her daughter's health helps lend even more credibility to her work.

AAA+++

I gained a lot of useful information in reading this book for my moderately ADHD child. I was very inspired that the author, Mary Ann Block went to medical school later in life just to find anwers that the medical field wouldn't help with for her yound ADHD afflicted daughter. Dr. Block addresses diet, supplements, exercise, osteopathic massage, methods of removing toxins from your child's system among other things. It encourages a more natural and holistic way of "healing" your child. It also arms you with the confidence on how to deal with the school system and the medical field who are all too quick to insist on medicating your child. The only down side of the book is that the data supporting the dietary supplements is quite dated and should be updated.

Jurists in most Muslim countries continue in their rulings to hew to antiquated formulations of Islam, enforcing a crippling separation of the Muslim world from modern, globalized states that rely on secular law to guide their relations with the outside world as Khaleel Mohammed ofSan Diego State University states.Islam and the Everyday World, consisting of eight chapters written by an array of specialists, attempts to discuss the problems that this dynamic creates over a spectrum of policy areas such as economics, banking, human rights, taxation, family, labor, and commercial law.Behind the diversity of the book's subject material is a common theme of Islamic atavism as the source of the problem in relations between the West and the Muslim world. Behdad's article, "Islam, Revivalism and Public Policy," aptly summarizes the Islamic approach: Rather than endeavor to come to grips with modernity and Western industrialism, Islamic thought instead looks to the golden age of Islam to animate its understanding of the world.Even during the caliphate period, however, the various interpretations of Shari`a made consistency a problem. In many cases, litigants had the choice of selecting a judge based upon the madhab (school of law) system. This problem has continued into modernity, and as Karen Pfeiffer shows, the competing interpretations of Islamic law regarding labor are a severe hindrance to any successful application of labor law.While the general tone of the book is critical of the classical Islamic approach, there is some hope to be gained from Volker Neinhaus, who observes that the erstwhile monopoly that traditional jurists have had on guidance and interpretation is being challenged by Muslim social scientists and economists. Ann Mayer's observation that the 1979 Iranian constitution was basically an attempt to Islamize Western ideas of constitutionalism evidences that, despite their professed "occidentophobia," even the most fanatic Islamist thinkers realize that progress can only be achieved by adopting Western law.Given the foregoing observations and William Ballantyne's astute summation that there ought to be a new ijtihad (interpretation) to address the interaction between Shari`a and Western law, it is rather strange that the book contains chapters from only Western-based academics. The book would be markedly more beneficial if it featured contributions from thinkers within the Muslim world.
