This reads like it was written by a millennial who dropped out of middle school! I want a good book about Hinduism, and I would love for it to be from the presuppositional school of apologetics, but this often reads like it was written by one of those bots that posts almost-sensical spam replies in blog comments and then has a monetized link to some shady website. I think the guy just self-published his stream of consciousness from some lonely Saturday when he was at home trying to get over a bender!

Mike Robinson' books have been an amazing blessing to me as a Christian. I personally have over 17 of his books on my kindle and in print form. I highly recommend all of his books to those who seek to know more about Christian philosophy and the presuppostional method of defending the faith! Robinson stands on the shoulders of presuppostional giants of the faith such as Van Til, Bahnsen, etc. and helps the average layperson who might have trouble understanding the presuppostional method while challenging them to think critically and biblically about what they believe, to better equip them to be able to explain and defend said belief, all while showing that non-Christian worldviews can not and do not hold the preconditions of intelligibility for anything at all! If you would like to know why Hinduism is a self-refuting/false religion and that Christianity is the only true and logical choice, I recommend you buy this book!

Meant for those that are uninformed about Vedanta and will swallow the author's views on Hinduism. Should not be listed under Hindu theology as it has nothing to do with Hindu theology. Should be listed only under Christianity as it is a very biased view of Vedanta. For a more balanced book see "The Spiritual Heritage of India"

INTRODUCTION The work of Antonio Gaudi Cornet (1852–1926) has transcended time, styles, and the period in which it was created. His achievement grew from his great capacity for observation and his fervent interest in nature. He was a passionate observer, learning directly from what he saw in the sky and the clouds, in water, rocks, plants, animals, and mountains. To understand Gaudi’s achievement one must recognize that his work is not exclusively architectural. It is more than that: it is not architectural in the sense that historians understand architecture. Gaudi’s work does not fit into traditional schemes that would place it within the narrow limits of a particular style, nor was he the outstanding discipline of any master. There had never been architects in the Gaudi family, only craftsmen, especially copper and iron smiths. He did not have the occupational idiosyncrasy that is characteristic of dynasties of architects. While he was extremely naive, he was also highly perspicacious. He saw things as they actually are, without prejudice, not as sometimes one might wish them to be. Juan Munne, a carpenter who worked with him for many years, said of him: “Gaudi is clear-minded.” Throughout his career Gaudi made use of practical solutions that were both simple and functional, and through them he achieved surprising results. Observing Gaudi’s architectural forms, one might think that he was either a complex or a convoluted mind. The sinuous facades of his buildings look like somewhat irrational, baroque conceptions. But this is not the case. Because his compositions are inspired by nature, they stand out from those of architects who have always utilized a simple geometry based on abstract forms, like the line of the plane, forms that are nonexistent in nature. In a logical process of simplification and abstraction, architects have developed designs and constructed buildings using only two auxiliary tools: the compass and the square. They have made use of these tools for drawing on a flat surface as well as for cutting stone or wood. From the plane and the straight line, both two-dimensional forms, one moves to three-dimensional forms, the regular polyhedrons, the cube, tetrahedron, octahedron, icosahedron, and pentagonal dodecahedron, forms that have been traditionally sanctified and identified with the elements of earth, fire, water, air, and the quintessential, as proposed by Plato in his Timaeus. If these forms can be drawn with a square, the compass serves for drawing circles and spheres, forms that have always been used by architects. In the architecture of every age, made with the help of a compass and square, all pillars can be described as prisms, all columns cylinders, all domes hemispheres, and all roofs dihedral angles or pyramids. This last form, so much loved by architects, is found from the pharonic pyramids of Giza built several thousand years ago to the recent courtyard entrance of the Louvre in Paris by I.M. Pei. Gaudi’s ingenious observation of nature led him to see that these regular forms either do not exist in nature or, if they do, only rarely. When pyrite cubes are found, or prisms crowned with rock crystal, or pentagonal dodecahedrons of cinnabar, they are kept in museums of natural history as rare and curious objects. In the light of the country landscape of Tarragona, Gaudi was moved by the beauty of natural forms. He was able to contemplate them at leisure during the summers spent in a little country house in the village of Riudoms. There, he observed that nature produces beautiful, decorative forms in the mineral, animal, and plant realms. At the same time, he understood that nature did not intend to create works of art but rather elements that were above all functional and useful. The brilliant color and agreeable fragrance of roses is not devised to inspire poets or painters but rather to attract insects and to encourage the reproductive function of the plant. An absolutely functional purpose. When Gaudi used the forms of plants, flowers, or animals in the decoration of his buildings, he took the natural forms just as they are in reality and not with the intention of so many architects over the course of history who have used them as an artistic intellectualization, submitting them to symmetries, dissymmetries, or compositional artifices. Gaudi’s conclusion was a very simple one. If an architect looks for the functional in his work, he will ultimately arrive at beauty. If he looks for beauty directly, he will only reach art theory, aesthetics, or philosophy, abstract ideas that never interested Gaudi. Moreover, he was able to see an infinity of magnificent structural forms in nature. He observed that in nature many structures are composed of fibrous materials, such as wood, bone, muscle, or tendon. From the viewpoint of geometry, fibers are straight lines and curved surfaces in space made up of straight lines that define a straight-line geometry, which is based on just four distinct surfaces: the helicoid, the hyperboloid, the conoid, and the hyperbolic paraboloid. Gaudi saw these surfaces in nature and brought them to architecture. The helicoid is the form of a tree trunk, and Gaudi used this form in the columns of the Teresina School. The hyperboloid is the form of the femur, a form he used in the columns of the Sagrada Familia. The conoid is a form frequently found in the leaves of trees, and this form he used in the roofs of the Provisional Schools of the Sagrada Familia. The hyperbolic paraboloid is formed by the tendons between the fingers of the hand, and he built with this form the porch domes of the church crypt in the Guell Estate. Gaudi had an innate sense of statics, which manifested itself in a simple, logical manner in the stereostatic model for the church of the Guell Estate. Once the ground floor of the church was drawn to a scale of 1:10 on a wooden panel, it was placed on the workshop ceiling and cords were suspended from it at the points where the pillars were assumed to begin. Hung above the catenaries formed by the cords were canvas sacks containing lead shot that weighted ten thousand times less than the weight the arch would have to support. The sacks of lead shot produced a warping of the cords. A photograph was then made of the inverted model. The photograph yielded the absolutely precise and exact form of the building’s structure, with no need for mathematical calculations or drawings of any kind and with no possibility of error. The shapes of the cords corresponded to the lines of tension of the warped structure, and when the photograph was inverted the structure’s lines of pressure were obtained. This simple, exact method attracted the attention of engineers and designers.

If you have been to Barcelona you will probably get "hooked" on Gaudi and the beauty of his work. This book provides the reader with a lot of beautiful pictures, a rarity nowadays, and will make you want to go back and see more. My wife and I went on two years ago and it was an amazing trip, seeing La Pedrera (pic on the cover) as well as La Sagrada Familia, as there are few words that can describe his building other than amazing or beautiful, and even those two words do not say enough about Gaudi.

I visited Spain and saw many of Gaudi's works. This book is a great reminder of his artistic genius, particularly because it is so comprehensive. I bought a copy for myself and for another friends who had recently visited Barcelona. She loved it, too. The quality of the photographs is very good, as well as the text.

Wonderful book with great pictures.

Once you go to Barcelona, you fall in love with Gaudi. This gives me a reason to remember what I visited--and to go back to see more.

This is a wonderful volume of Gaudi's works and it has very nice paper and prints. I think that the price is excellent and it makes me long for returning to Barcelona.

Received as expected; haven't spent a lot of time with book yet--plan to before end of month.

This is a great story that takes your typical Old MacDonald storyline and shows what happens if you throw a dragon in there :) The color were vivid, the storyline entertaining, and the characters are fun! I also found that the author has a site where you can look up ways to use this book in a classroom or at home to work on reading skills with your student. I'm actually going to be using myself for a lesson in a classroom where I volunteer in just a few weeks.

My kids and I LOVE this book. My daughter is obsessed with dragons so when I saw this I knew I had to buy it. It is a great book to do voices with, the kids all love hearing it and my husband and I both love reading it. The art is done very well, the wording is clever. I'm thinking of ordering a couple more to keep on hand for birthday gifts.

My 5 year old loves this book and honestly so do I. Funny, pun filled giggles every time we read it. My older son even gets a kick out of it.

My Granddaughters, Sophia and Mei, and I LOVE this book!!! It is Very Fun to Read Aloud and the illustrations are clever and entertaining.The of the joy of reading aloud, for me, lies in the well defined characters that can be drawn...the gourmet dragon, the personality laden farm animals and the E-I-E-I-O song, make this a book that My Girls ask me to read again right after I finish it!!!

About the Author

Felicity Aston is the first and only woman in the world to ski alone across Antarctica. The 35-year-old British expedition leader, public speaker and freelance travel writer from Kent also led the 2009 Commonwealth Expedition to the South Pole, the first British women's team across Greenland; this became the subject of her first book, Call of the White, a finalist in the Banff Mountain Book Competition in 2011. Outside Magazine named her one of their 2012 Adventurers of the Year. Felicity lives in Birchington-on-Sea, Kent, in the UK.

This book chronicles the amazing story of one woman who was brave enough to do what others would consider nearly impossible - skiing alone across the continent of Antarctica. After reading several books about dead white male explorers in Antarctica, this account was a refreshing change. I found myself rooting for this woman, sometimes wanting to give her a kick in the snowpants to tell her to get a move on and at points being moved to tears about a necklace her sister gave to her and some cookies in the bottom of her bag. I think her book truly made me understand how terribly difficult such a journey is mentally, from battling her loneliness and strange behaviors and thoughts brought on by fatigue to some quirky moments that made the reader realize just how alone she really was to some dangerous behavior that had me seriously concerned about whether she was going to make it alive. She seemed to me to be very candid in this account, sharing her vulnerabilities and mistakes so that you really are rooting for her once she leaves the South Pole.I gave the book four stars because I wanted more. This had a movie-like ending, not a book ending. She seems to gloss over the physical effort too much in my opinion. She has a hilarious anecdote about her training with a tire, but I wanted more details about her training for this adventure. Because I was rooting for her at the end, I wanted to be there for her reunion with her family and to see the reaction of her friends and followers. She speaks in the beginning about how such a journey changes someone and she does touch on how she's changed, but I was curious whether she was changed in the years that followed. Did her personality change? Did she change the way she chose to live her life? I also was interested in the messages she sent out on her sat phone. She and the reader don't know how her real-time accounts played online, but it would have been interesting to learn what the response was from those following her. Not during the journey, because that would have wrecked the solitary feel of the book, but in hindsight as she learned about it upon her return. Maybe time for another edition with a new epilogue?

This is an amazing story. Felicity Aston tells her story and as the reader you feel like you are right there with her on the ice as she attempts to traverse the most amazing landmass and scenery. From page 1 the adventure hooks you and you don't want to put the book down. As she tells her story she expresses herself in a very humble and easygoing straightforward manner. When she tells the story of why she did this it is not to achieve a status of elitism, or inflate her ego but just to test what her own personal limits are and what drove her to find that out. At the beginning she had no preconceived notions of whether she would be able to finish this or not and there were doubts along the way however she persevered making a little bit of progress everyday and eventually she achieved her goal. She also had some good general advice for the reader which I really liked and it would apply to just about anything that if you persevere you will achieve your goals and that we are capable of more than we give ourselves credit for. The way she expressed this is that we "all must get out of the tent" everyday whatever our symbolic tent is, whether we are camping, riding a bike a long distance, hiking, or whatever our adventures are. So fundamentally whatever you are doing you have to get up and get going no matter how good you are at doing the adventure or it will never get done. Superb writing by a person addicted to being alone and her attempts to deal with her loneliness by pushing her body to the limits in the Antarctic wilderness. I worry a bit about anyone who's addiction places her life in danger, worried that one day she will perish in the wild. At the same time, through her ruthless, almost poetic exploration of her inner demons, I have a better understanding of her needs and coping strategies, both inner and outer. Found it a fascinating, very readable book!

This book inspired me to stay in life's arena, challenging me to discover my own fears, ability to persist and not allow failure or disappointment to flatten me.Her description of the aloneness she felt in the vastness of the Antarctic continent on her journey alone was so insightful and self-aware.Although her story was at times difficult to stick with I really enjoyed her incredible expression of her emotions on her journey. I highly recommend to women who intend to do great and difficult things.

This book is an amazing testament that blends candor, courage and commitment to tell an amazing story. Felicity, lays bare her most raw emotions and anxiety with uncommon clarity as she doggedly pursues her dreams and conquers in spite of the odds. This book inspires, amuses, and illustrates one person's journey yet serves as an example to the rest of us on how to pull ourselves up by the boot straps to keep on going no matter what. "just keep getting out of the tent..." is her mantra and reminds me of Little Nemo's "just keep swimming."

I probably wouldn't have chosen this book to read if it had not been for book club. I found it to be fascinating and very educational. Having spent a lot of time alone in my life I could identify with some of her emotions, but she experienced it in extremes. I admire her preparedness and courage.
