I couldn't put this book down. I share a story similar to this mother's except my loved one is a young, African American male who also has schizophrenia and is more likely to end up dead or in jail as opposed to in and out of the hospital...but i digress. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is dealing with a child with schizophrenia. The author touches on her son's elementary, middle school, and high school years (before he received a correct diagnosis) and then more so on his young adult years and multiple hospitalizations. It was clear to me early on in the book, that Ben had schizophrenia because he exhibited many of the habits as my son before he started taking medicine (court ordered): mood swings, argumentative, shouting, talking to imaginary characters, unable to sit still, not sleeping at night, strange rituals, carrying a notebook around, etc. The narrative Included the ups and downs that come along with a mental illness. I identified w/mom's sense of helpless and not being able to control the situation. I love, love, love it that the writer/mom includes helpful information throughout the book such as information about the National Association for Mental Illness (NAMI).

I am a new mother to the adult child mental illness world. It is so overwhelming like trying to find your way through a war zone with no help. Not knowing where to go how and where to find help . How to get him to go for help. How to get past the denial and get him in for help. How to pay for it. How to get him to talk to me with out shutting me down because he won't except that he needs help. I'm so lost and afraid of losing my son.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for publishing Ben Behind His Voices. My 29 year old son was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective disorder 6 months ago after 6 hospitalizations over the course of 2 1/2 years. Having witnessed a downward slope in his mental illness over the last 6 years, 2 years in particular, I needed this book, your words, to help me walk with someone while I come to grips and accept his illness, not as a result of anything I have done. Letting go has been a process and its not to say that I don't have moments of grief but at least I am encouraged that we are not alone.

Being a parent of a 23 year old son with schizophrenia, a social worker, and one with a family history of schizophrenia I never the less struggled with my son's behavior for three years until his diagnosis by the hospital staff during his first hospitalization. I therefore really appreciate the author's detailed description of her son's prodromal behaviors and symptoms. Doctors, therapists, and the general public need much more education in this area! Several therapists (myself included) did not even consider this possibility. Once diagnosed I was able to adjust my expectations of him and no longer engaged in futile arguments to get him to be more reasonable. I also greatly appreciated the author's detailed descriptions of her parenting as it helped greatly to relieve niggling fears and guilt that if only I had been stricter or provided more structure my son could have avoided such a severe illness... It was clear from reading Ben's story that causation at this point in time is still very much a guessing game. Kudos to the author for her contribution to this field. So much more needs to be known! .

I’ve been on this journey in the world of schizophrenia for eight years with my family member. In many ways, Randye’s story parallels ours.It’s important to hear other’s stories so that we know we’re not alone. Randye also adds guidance at the end of each chapter with critical information for anyone on this journey.I’d recommend this book to anyone, whether or not you’re dealing with schizophrenia in your life.

Just finished reading this amazing book. What an eye opener. My family is currently living the battle of mental illness with our high school aged child. So much of that portion of the book resonated with me. Although, we are not dealing specifically with Schizophrenia (it is a different mental illness) this book has helped me in ways that I can not put into words. I thank you Randye for sharing your pain, frustration, love, hope and joy with us. For me, it has given me a new strength to face whatever may come down the road. Anyone who is dealing with mental illness in their family should read this book.

From page one, I have felt that the author has lived my life and shared my feelings. I too have a teen, a daughter, who was incredibly bright, social, and vibrant. I too have struggled to comes to grips with the "new normal" in our house. If you are struggling through figuring out how to be the parent to a schizophrenic or schizoaffective young adult, read this book. You will FINALLY feel like you are not alone on this path. I am truly impressed with Ms. Kaye - as a mother, an author, and an advocate for Ben. She faced the specter of mental illness in her son and found a path to success.My own journey through the mental illness with my husband lead to his death. I was unsuccessful in getting him the help he needed although I tried my best. I know there are others like me who found getting their loved one the help they need to survive to be an insurmountable obstacle.I was relieved to read of one family who found a way to help the sufferer. Thank you, Ms. Kaye for infusing some hope into a seemingly hopeless scenario. Schizophrenia is a daunting diagnosis. But those who have it deserve to be helped, understood, kept safe, and most of all, they deserve a chance at life.Ms. Kaye does a superlative job of demystifying the navigation of the mental health system for anyone. She offers a plethora of ideas, tools, and resources that can be used to help a mentally ill person. Knowledge is power, and Ms. Kaye does her best to give readers as much as she can.

Jeffrey M. Wooldridge is a University Distinguished Professor of Economics at Michigan State University, where he has taught since 1991. I used this text for a graduate level introductory econometrics course and was for the most part very pleased with it. It's full of practical and interesting examples and problems, and is written at a level that's neither patronizing, nor overly complex. I didn't have to utilize it for much during the course, but a person with basic statistical knowledge could definitely utilize this book for self-study. It isn't quite as rigorous or technical as it could be, but I think that's its benefit. It's totally readable and approachable. I was very happy my professor recommended this book, as a few other econometrics texts I've thumbed through are quite dull. Econometrics is a wildly interesting subject, so it's great to have a book that compliments that.

I haven't used this book much yet, but it provided a good overview of econometrics for a doctorate level CRJ advanced stats class. I use the appendices quite frequently.

For those students that are looking for a serious econometrics text that is also very readable, this is a good choice. There are more technical texts out there but there is value in a book that presents topics in a manner which is not extremely difficult to understand.

I am a first year PhD student in health policy and just started reading the book and now I am half way done with it. Seems to me that the book is not for just skimming through. One needs to read through it and get back to it when s/he tries to fit a regression model of his or her own. The book is precise and comprehensive and I would say flawless. I hope , when I am done reading it, I will keep it as my core econometrics reference.

A solid Math background is needed to understand anything from this book.

I chose this Wooldridge text as a simple easy-to-read guide to run me through the principles underlying various models, esp the panel data model. I really appreciate the fact that it isn't technical at all. Content coverage is also quite good. Only issue is that it costs a lot for merely a book!!

Needed this book for a class. Not a bad read, though. You just need patience. Complicated material to grasp.
