This is another great addition to the Pacific Northwest Cougars series, a spin-off of the PNW Bears series. The books can standalone and all have HEAs, but they flow from one to the next and involve the members of two families. So, they are best when read from the beginning.Everett Hayes is a younger brother of Dax (book one), is a twin and a cougar shifter. He is also a computer whiz and has been asked to test the new security system of a Las Vegas cougar family, owners of the Platinum Hotel and Casino. He's invited to a run at the family compound and while out in the desert, his cougar smells his mate.Layla Klein, the youngest female in her family, is in charge of the hotel's club, which she has made into the best is Vegas. Driven to work long hours, she arrives at her family's run late, but soon catches an enticing scent on the wind. Racing toward it's origin she sees golden eyes in the darkness running straight toward her. Their cougars immediately recognize their mates and their humans soon follow, leading to a quick agreement that they belong together, details to be worked out later. 4.75 STARS FOR THIS ONEThe title of this one is really literal. The Cougar find his one on a trip to Las Vegas to help the Klein family update their security at a Vegas Casino. How much more lucky could that be.Everett is one of the Hayes twins. He is the geek of the Trio and the one who was not looking, but still looking, for his one. He is restless and not satisfied but still not committed to finding that elusive mate connection. That, however, does deter fate. When he meets the youngest member of Klein clan at the month hunt in Vegas all bets are off. It helps that Layla is a cougar shifter and knows at the same instant Everett does that her life as she knows it is about to do a 360. In fact the hook up that night, head to Vegas and are married by Elvis.The only dark spot on their happiness is one very dumb mobster want-to-be boyfriend Vince Donoto. When he puts a hit out on Layla he buys more trouble than he can hope to come away unscathed from. Especially when the Klein family put in a call to his Dad who has no idea what trouble Vince is causing. He is quickly dispatched and life for the newly weds comes full circle. That is if you don't count the Mother-in-law from hell into the mixture.Read and enjoy.
I loved the first book. I thought Effie was fun and awesome. This book, not so much. Layla was spoiled and selfish throughout the entire book. She was so bad the first half of the book I thought it would come between her and Everett, they would fight then she would see the error of her selfish ways. But no, that's just her forever self. There was no compromise on anything. He would want something,she would throw a fit and he would concede. He would say something was dangerous, she would blow him off. It was the same during her interactions with her family. At one point she actually stomped her foot when she wasn't getting her way. It was annoying and disappointing because I actually really liked Everett. He's the only reason I gave this book 2 stars.
I loved the story and the eff and flow of Everett and Layla's relationship. They seemed like the most unlikeliest of couples -- her all high class glamor and him with his gamer boy chic. Their differences aside, when they meet, it was kismet. They just knew they were mates and the passion between them was SERIOUS! There is also a bit of drama in the story that keeps it interesting and a crazy Effie who adds a humorous flavor. I'm hoping that North pairs Effie with Stryker. That will be HILARIOUS if it happens.
I have got to say the writing style and character development is fantastic. The witty comebacks thrown in with the drama and of course you can't forget about alleged the sexy sex scenes that will make you need to change your panties. I started with the P.N.W. werebear series which goes before the werecougar so they could be read alone but to get the whole world of the series you need to start there and then dive into the fanfricintastic book! You won't be disappointed!
