I'm so glad to have read this book. As someone who deals with anxiety, anxiety literally magnifies all my insecurities, doubts and fears. This book has helped me to just relax, be at peace with my decisions even if they may require some struggles because even through the trials there are lessons to be learned and there's always room for more growth in knowledge & wisdom. I also learned that it's ok to say no when people ask of our time & energy and reserve that for a Best Yes! I've lived 90% of my life being a "people pleaser." I tend to feel bad saying no, but I no longer feel that way. I feel healthier emotionally and mentally.
Even if you do not read the book, you'll love this study guide.It is set up with discussion questions for your group - and provides enough for groups that meet for up to 2 hours! Our group only meets for an hour, so I'm thankful it breaks down which questions to do for shorter time frames.There are optional devotions to do on your own - that are very helpful!Beautifully drawn quotes, checklists, & scripture pages are also weaved into this study guide. Something lovely to set out as a daily reminder.Although the study guide may not seem to fit well with the book - I found that they pair nicely together and I'm glad it isn't just a rewording of the same thing. The study guide is its own resource for learning this simple, practical and much needed life lesson.As our group leader, I want to encourage you to create a Best Yes study group with this guide! This was one of the easiest guides to lead through - We met for just 1 hour, listened to Lisa's 15 minute video and then discussed the questions. A very simple and low effort group to lead - with only a 6 week commitment! It's been a joy!
I have been walking with the Lord for decades now since my youth and I'm a voracious reader and have been listening to the best preachers. So I'm not easily impressed just by any spiritual good book. But the author of this book is obviously anointed and walking with the Lord. God's wisdom is manifested in this book in simplified and practical terms useful for both new believers and old. I like it a lot. Well-written! Glory to God!
Another book that sat on my shelf (or kindle list!) for way too long before I actually read it! However, the week I decided to read the book was the week I needed to hear everything in it. The interesting part about the book, is that our "best yes" is actually in saying "small nos." And in today's rapidly moving culture, taking a moment to say "no" can create more questions that just saying "yes." Even though that "yes" will create more stress for ourselves, at least everyone else around us is happy. Lisa TerKeurst understands the hearts of women, and by using personal testimony and Biblical references, she reminds women that it's okay to say "no" to people around us sometimes in order that we can say "yes" to the will of God.
Really good message, especially for young adults struggling with their newfound freedom. Good quality decision making is important, and this series offers good nuggets of valuable, biblical insight. Unfortunately, their is also a lot of fluff. Throughout the book, you feel like you're continuing to be marketed to even though you already bought in! My wife and I used this as the basis for a bible study, but we ended up having to dig in and fill in the content with our own research.
There is so much in this book. So many arrows pointing to a wise way to live and make decisions. So many good quotes to think about and unpack. So many real life examples to help me along he way. The bottom line of all the chapters dealing with when to say yes and when to say no is to gain and use wisdom. In reading this book while also doing the group study workbook gave me many practical ways to approach big and small decisions in my life. Lysa’s writing style is easy to read and packed with so many things to think about. I highly recommend this book!
Lysa TerKeurst is a talented, relatable, godly writer. I've enjoyed several of her studies and books in the past. I have to admit, I wasn't thrilled when my small group voted to read this one. I felt I had a handle on saying "yes" or "no" to opportunities in my life and ministries. However, this book opened my eyes to ways I could improve, and it discusses topics about saying "yes" or "no" that I hadn't even considered. God knows what He's doing 😊
Lysa Terkeurst does an amazing job guiding us women through a study all about boundaries. She dives into scripture with us and relates everything back to scripture. It is presented in a way that ladies can relate to. The study is deep enough but, also approachable enough for all levels of study. I especially love the shorter video time and longer small group discussion. That is different from some other studies where the videos are almost an hour long. I highly recommend this study!
